Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), often referred to as 2-Factor Authentication (2FA), is a method of authenticating a user that requires the use of more than one verification method. There are three components:
What you know – a username or password
What you have – a mobile device
What you are – a fingerprint scanner or similar
With MFA enabled, when a user signs into Quoter, they will be prompted for their user name and password (the first factor—what they know), as well as the authentication code from their MFA device (the second factor—what they have). These multiple factors will provide increased security for your Quoter account.
Prerequisites
MFA should work with any 3rd party authenticator app like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, Duo Mobile, etc.
Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
1. Click on your User in the top-right corner:
2. Click Enable MFA:
3. Open the authenticator application you installed above and scan the QR code that is displayed in the Enable Multi-Factor Authentication dialog box:
Alternatively, you can use the manual configuration option by clicking on Show secret key for manual configuration and then entering the secret key in the authenticator application.
4. Enter the MFA code from the authenticator application in the highlighted Verify MFA Code field and then click Enable.
Upon successfully activating Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), you'll be shown a Backup Code that will need to be kept in a safe place. This code will be needed to deactivate MFA should you ever lose your phone or access to the authenticator app.
Login with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
When MFA is enabled, the login page will prompt you for the authenticator code after submitting the correct username and password:
Please Note: You will be locked out of the account for thirty minutes after five failed attempts
Disable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
You can disable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) by doing one of the following:
Disable in your user profile by confirming the authenticator code
Click Disable MFA:
Verify the MFA Code from your authenticator app or enter your Backup Code before clicking Disable:
Disable when logging in using the Backup Code
Enter the Backup Code into the Authenticator Code field:
Clicking Sign In with the entered Backup Code will sign you into Quoter and disable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
